Fashion: Patterns Weeks Two and Three

Over the past few days there's been no blogs because I've been working on the same stuff the whole time.....swatches!  It has been good experimenting with materials and figuring out what manipulating techniques apply to what fabrics and things like that! Today we had to choose our final 8 swatches out of about 20 and we'd to figure out how we wanted them layed out on our fabric boards.

Speaking of mounting boards we also had to do mood boards and colour boards. The mood board is what inspired us during the project to create the prints we made and the colour boards have colors on them pulled out from our initial images. I have no photos of these boards yet because I'm still in editing mode for them and want them to be displayed perfectly.

I have photos of my swatches though!! And the chosen ones!

Fashion: Day Five.Pattern

I may have skipped a few days of blogging but I have valid enough excuses!I  was working hard? :) Alright it's Friday now and today they'll be doing colour boards to go with their patterns.

Over the past few days we did mark making, painting with bleach and manipulating fabric. It has really been a good to get to know the types of fabric and to understand their abilities to take on dye or ink or if they are easy to stitch into or things like that!! Bleaching was great fun and there will be some photos of that further down this blog post.

I'm sticking with my underneath shoe print. I'm going between Vans and Converse as my "go to" shoe...partially because they are the two types of shoe that I wear to college. And as well I find their pattern interesting. My favorite is the Converse one but I like the Vans one because its in the shape of the star of David because the man that first made them is Jewish.....I think that's how the story goes!!

We did mark making using paint, ink, potato printing, stenciling, normal painting, etc.. Then we made stencils of shapes of tshirts to make view finders kind of so we can find patterns that we like for the knitting side.

It was a good week but it absolutely flew by!! So far out of all the mark making I've been doing I enjoy dying calico fabric in coffee then using a stencil and painting (with black paint) a print of the Converse shoe onto the calico. It smells better than ink and leaves a nicer older looking finish. I will do the same with the Vans just to see how it looks.

The colours that I am choosing for my colour boards are brown, grey, white and black. I will have to do those on Sunday and maybe Monday because I'm actually getting on a flight in a few hours to Nottingham in England!! So that'll be fun!!

Here are some photos that I've been taking over the past few days.
