Fashion: Pattern. Day One

We've been given our brief and it has to do with the urban environment and our own environment. So we create patterns from urban and/or environmental objects like manholes, tree bark, baskets, rust, paving, etc.

What to do for Monday: Use your immediate environment to source and photograph relevant imagery. College buildings and grounds, playground, etc.. Photography, sketching, collage, rubbings. You will be expected to bring a body of imagery to class with you. Group tutorial to discuss initial ideas and possible directions/developments. Fabric manipulation techniques.

So I was wandering around Limerick and my house wondering what I would like to base my project on. I took a few photographs...maybe got a little trigger happy...and my conclusion?? Very linear urban geometric objects.

In Penneys I went through the shoe area and wondered what kind of patterns would be underneath the shoes so I did that and was instantly inspired to create using those marking and any markings under any shoes.

I also did a bit of experimenting today with fabric and manipulating it a tiny tiny bit.

Here are my images...from inspiration to experimentation.

P.S
This is very unrelated and off topic but I'm just so excited about it... I went to see The Wanted on Friday night....it was AMAZING!!

Choosing THE elective...

So yesterday I had my progress review for the three electives that I tried. Straight away I was told go do Fashion because it was my highest result. And now that I've heard it like five times I'm thinking of doing it....I mean the tutors obviously know what they're talking about!! Here I've made up a list of pros and cons for choosing Fashion....

Pros of Fashion
- Work experience
- Fantastic opportunity
- I can actually do it
- I really enjoy it
- LSAD best Fashion dept. in Ireland
- Use of computers is more than I expected
- Only three years of it

Cons of Fashion
- Time
- Money
- Less of a social life
- Three full years
- Will I regret not giving Graphics a go?

Ohhh it's all just so confusing!!!!

Fashion Finished!!

Its 12:05..5 minutes after finishing Fashion and yet I'm doing another blog :)

Got my final 6 collection finished!! Didn't think I was going to make it but thankfully my hands went quicker towards the end!!

Trying out Fashion was like the best fun I've had in a long time. Sure there was a lot of work...and I may have had a small breakdown when I couldn't open the top of a hot water bottle fast enough so I could get back to work....butttt it was TOTALLY worth it!!

Now just to make the all important decision!!....what do I want a degree in??.....hmmm......

No need to think about that now though.....its sleepy time!

Viktor and Rolf

Yes...they are going to get a full blog dedicated to them!!! I have never actually loved a set of designers so much in my life. Like ok I get the way people basically idolize Alexander Mc Queen but quirky and out there but still amazing is the style of Viktor and Rolf by far! Here are some of my favourite Viktor and Rolf images...
